My story
Civil Engineer Pedro Enrique Sosa Veras, who is also an architect and surveyor, began his professional activities in the Playa Dorada Puerto Plata tourism project in 1986, as Resident Engineer of the Infratur Banco Central Projects in that town, with responsibility to control the quality of the soils and materials used in the constructions carried out from 1986 to 1991 of 8 hotels in the complex, through the Soils and Materials laboratory located on site. But with the great responsibility of the conservation of the flora and fauna of the entire complex and its surroundings, whose surface area exceeded 100 hectares, which was expressly established by the World Bank, provider of the US$ resources that were required for the construction of the Playa Dorada project.
The commitment with which we had developed since our birth in La Vega, regarding attention and care for the environment, was seen in this context, reinforced. And we remained committed to the conservation of this ecosystem, decades before the appearance of Law 64-00, creating manuals and instructions for regional use in Infratur, Playa Dorada-Playa Grande.
Participating in inter-institutional work commissions, made up of Infratur (which led them), the Puerto Plata city council and INAPA, for the management and final destination of the Urban Solid Waste (MSW) of that municipality.
We are part, representing Infratur Banco Central, of the international commission, which responded to the 1988 environmental disaster in Puerto Plata, when a tank of 1 million gallons of fuel collapsed in the Puerto Plata electrical substation and fell on the beach of Cofresí, Costambar, Malecón and the entire coastline.
From 1991 to 1994 we remained in private consulting work. In 1994 we joined the city council of the National District as Head of Engineering until 1998; year in which we began to work with the world expert in administration, design and management of Solid Waste Ing. Roberto Castillo Tió, on all issues of improvement of management, administration, final destination and redesign of the capital system, which the Inter-American Bank of Development (IDB) supported with resources and promoted the modernization of the council to improve everything related to the case. He also chaired the ADN Environmental Commission. We were there until 2002, when the municipal administration ended.
In the interest of keeping up to date with contemporary knowledge, in 1998 we completed the master's degree in Pure Mathematics.
In 2002 we continued working with the engineer Castillo Tió, no longer in public functions, but in private professional activities. And assisting him in the subject classes, both undergraduate and master's, until 7-9-20.
In 2012 we finished the master's degree in Urban Planning at PUCAMAIMA.
In 2021 we obtained the Master's degree in Health and Environmental Engineering at the UASD, from then on, we began to fill the void left by the departure of Mr. Castillo Tió, in the chair, being appointed as professor of the subject Engineering of the Solid Residues of this master's degree, to the present.
In the 3 decades in which we maintained close working collaboration with Mr. Castillo Tió, we carried out designs, management and administration of Solid Waste systems.
The passing of time motivated us to found our own company to design management and administration systems for Urban Solid Waste, in the broadest context.
